U.S. Course Openings & Closures Trend
The accompanying graphic shows the tail end of the U.S. golf course building boom and the start of the correction in the world's best-supplied market. Starting in 2006, when there were a total of 146 closures (as measured in 18HEQ), course closures have outweighed new course openings. This came after a 20-year stretch during which 4,500+ courses opened. That's 1,000+ more than any other country in the world has in total and created a supply/demand imbalance that prompted the correction.
