On-Course Participation Trend by Frequency of Play
The accompanying graphic trends annual participation levels by avidity, or frequency of play, going back to 2011. Since that time, as the U.S. began its recovery after the Great Recession, on-course participation has seen a net gain of about 1 million. Meanwhile, there has been a notable decrease in the number of "avid" golfers who play 25-or-more rounds a year, and an increase in the number of "occasional" golfers, who might only play once or a handful of times in a given year.
