On-Course Golfers by State
California is by far the most populous state in the U.S., with almost 39 million residents in 2023, and in turn has the biggest on-course golf participation base. In fact, the seven most populous states are in the same order when it comes to the number of golfers -- all with more than 1 million each. The first deviation from the population/golfer list is Michigan, which ranks 10th in population, but eighth in golfers. Meanwhile, Georgia, which is 8th in population (about 1 million more than Michigan) is 11th in on-course golfers.
