New Golf Course Openings Trend
There were 24.6 18-hole equivalent (18HEQ) openings in 2023, a total that encompassed 34 course projects that ranged from 6, 7 and 10 holes to the more traditional 9- and 18-hole layouts. The number of debuts in 2023 was more than double the 2022 openings total and the most in the U.S. in more than a decade. While development is on an uptick, it's a far cry from the building boom around the turn of the century.
