Net Change in U.S. Supply by Year
Since a record number of course closures in 2019, as measured in 18-hole equivalents (18-HEQ), the annual tally of permanent shutdowns has declined every year. It's an indication of a better supply/demand balance and, potentially, of the correction coming to an end. There were about 1o5 18-HEQ closures in 2022, the fewest since 2005. This resulted in a net decline of 86 18-HEQ when accounting for new openings and re-openings after renovations.
