May 2024 National Rounds Played
Rounds of golf in May were relatively flat (-0.8% year-over-year) for the second month in a row, though play on a national level continues to trend slightly ahead of last year’s record pace.
Rounds were down in five of eight geographic regions, in part due to increased precipitation. The Mid Atlantic region, for example, home to the golf-rich states of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, saw rounds decrease about 5% in May as the total rainfall for the month more than tripled compared to 2023.
Play was up out west in the Pacific (+5%) and Mountain (2%) regions, and down in New England (-4.5%), South Central (-4%), and West North Central (-3%).
Through the first five months of 2024, rounds of golf are running 2.4% ahead of the record pace from a year ago, when there were more rounds played at U.S. courses than any time in history.
