Rounds of golf for November 2022 were down almost 10% nationally compared to a year ago, a decline largely attributable to less-than-favorable golf weather in many parts of the country.
The November dip brings the year-to-date total to -2.8% behind last year’s record play totals. With only the low-volume month of December remaining to close out the year, it’s likely to finish around the -3% number, which would still put 2022 among one of the top years for rounds in history.
Some of the biggest YOY November declines were seen in the Mountain (-29%) and West North Central (-26%) regions, with fewer playable days putting a limit on rounds. The average monthly temperatures were down 11 degrees and 6 degrees, respectively, in those regions while precipitation was up 160% and 122%.
The Pacific Region, home to California, Oregon and Washington, saw a 13% decline in rounds as all three states experienced one of the top 10 coldest Novembers on record, per the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
And in the South Central, which is anchored by golf-rich Texas, November rounds were down 17% YOY as monthly precipitation jumped 181% compared to a year ago.
