Change in Golfer Segments (2021 vs 2020)
In 2021, amid a record number of rounds played, the total number of on-course golfers in the U.S. increased for a fourth straight year. There were again participation increases among several notable segments, among them beginners, females and non-Caucasian golfers. While the number of juniors saw a slight decline, this came after a year (2020) in which a cutback on team sports led to the most significant gain in youth golfers since 1997, the year Tiger Woods broke through for his first major title. There were still over 3 million junior golfers in 2021.
