What’s Par for the Course?
The most common golf course layout: four par 3 holes, four par 5 holes and 10 par 4 holes. That adds up to a par of 72, which is the norm for the majority of 18-hole regulation courses in the U.S. In fact, 86% of regulation 18-hole golf courses in the U.S. have a par of 71 or 72. With over 10,000 courses in the 18-hole, regulation category, there are still plenty of exceptions. For example, almost 100 courses have a par of 73, among them the Kapalua Resort's Plantation Course on Maui and Streamsong Resort's Black Course in Florida.
