States With the Highest Proportion of Muni Supply

With more than 2,900 municipal golf courses at over 2,500 facilities nationwide, the U.S. market is close to the all-time highs in both categories. This graphic shows which states have the highest percentage of municipal golf courses, based on the number of munis relative to their overall supply. Thus, Utah has the biggest proportion of munis, with government-owned or operated properties accounting for 65 of its 125 courses. California, which has been the target of a legislative initiative seeking to close down these public courses, is middle-of-the-pack when it comes to its proportion of municipal golf supply.
