Under Armour is a leading inventor, marketer, and distributor of branded performance athletic apparel, footwear, and accessories.

Under Armour was founded in 1996 and entered the golf apparel market in the early 2000’s. While the brand has been in the market for around 20 years, it wasn’t until 2013 when the company signed Jordan Spieth that the brand began to gain strong momentum in the golf industry. At the end of Spieth’s first year with Under Armour, the brand’s golf product sales had almost tripled.

Under Armour’s innovative products are targeted to consumers with active lifestyles. Beyond the company’s vaunted base layers, the Under Armour golf line is primarily comprised of polo shirts, pants and shorts, outerwear, accessories, and shoes – for men, women and kids.

While other golfers have joined UA’s stable, the company’s deepest relationship on the golf side is unquestionably with Spieth, a three-time major championship winner and former world No. 1.

Originally under contract through 2025, the Baltimore-based apparel company and Spieth agreed to a deal in 2022 that would lock him up for an additional 4 years. The company has leveraged his name with four generations of Spieth’s namesake shoe.

While the golf line makes up a small portion of Under Armour’s overall business it has shown steady development thanks to the help of Spieth’s success since the initial endorsement deal. Under Armour also includes categories such as basketball, training, running, and outdoors.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Under Armour signed Spieth at the age 19, before he had any status on the PGA Tour, and it’s a move that has most certainly paid off.

Spieth has only ever worn Under Armour during his PGA Tour career, helping to elevate the Baltimore-based brand in a similar (albeit lesser) fashion to Tiger Woods and Nike in the late 1990s when that company pushed its way into the apparel space.
